Military Applications and Entrepreneurial Prototype Innovations
Do you have an invention or innovation you think the military could use? But you just have no idea how to go about selling to the government? Well, you may wish to contact DARPA directly rather than trying to get anyone interested in the public business divisions of the military.
When contacting DARPA, I recommend that you be sure to contact the correct department, as even though DARPA is a close group it is rather big with lots of divisions. If you can contact the director's office of the appropriate department, you will be best off. They may be intrigued and willing to entertain your concept and ask for a paper. If you are not good as writing papers and such then go find someone good at that sort of thing. With Brilliance comes with baggage often and unfortunately it comes with a disdain for paperwork, those who think outside the box often do not think this way, yet have considered every last detail of their concept. If this is you, they understand, but still need your paper and attached digital pictures or video clip. Most entrepreneurial innovators do have issues with writing papers and it is indeed an interesting human psyche study and I have found observations here fascinating.
Contacting most military operations directly is pretty much a waste of time in my experience and even if you send in the idea, they could turn around and send it out to bid and award it to someone else such as a Mega Defense Contractor. As a smaller innovator often I feel for such entrepreneurs who have difficulty getting patents, monies to push their ideas forward. Many times Military Agencies will recommend that someone contact the SBA for a Loan, which is silly since why would anyone go into debt on a wing and a prayer without a buyer or guaranteed market?
Another option is to contact a Defense Contractor, which has already been awarded a similar contract and meet with them, perhaps they will buy your project and prototype as is and/or hire you back as a member of the engineering team, you might be surprised what they can do with your concept, with better materials, sensors, computer technologies, 3D and 4D graphics. It will truly make you smile to see it come to fruition and they even pay you! Please be thinking on what you can do for your country.
